These Chapel Hill clients wanted their West Asheville vacation home to feel like a true home away from home, a welcoming space where they could unwind and connect with Asheville's vibrant artistic culture. Our challenge was to maximize the floor space and storage while drawing inspiration from Asheville's rich artistic heritage to create an inviting gathering place for their mountain getaways.

Significant Changes
New Cabinet Wall Construction: Built an entirely new wall of cabinets where none had previously existed, requiring careful planning for electrical and structural considerations
Strategic Cabinet Layout: Omitted upper cabinets on the new wall to create uninterrupted gallery space for the clients' artwork while maximizing lower storage
Mixed-Depth Cabinet Installation: Combined standard 21-inch bathroom vanity depth cabinets with 24-inch kitchen base depth units, requiring precise measurements and custom installation to achieve the perfect layout around the corner intersection
Custom Storage Solutions
Built-in Microwave Integration: Created a seamless built-in microwave installation near the corner intersection, working within the mixed cabinet depths to maintain functionality
Custom Coat Closet Addition: Constructed a custom coat closet to the right of the refrigerator, eliminating the need for freestanding furniture and freeing up valuable floor space for the centrally located dining table
Complete Kitchen Reconstruction
Removed all existing cabinets and replaced them with a custom natural walnut finish that harmonized with the clients' existing artwork and surrounding landscape.
Coordinated new electrical rough-in to accommodate the expanded cabinet layout and appliance placement
Installed custom backsplash featuring locally-inspired pottery tiles that celebrate Asheville's artistic heritage

After an initial consultation at the home site, the clients completed their design selections that same afternoon at HomeSource Design Center, allowing us to move quickly into the construction phase with clear specifications and a timeline.
The collaboration between our construction team and HomeSource Design Center ensured that every change supported the design vision, from the precise cabinet installation to the careful coordination of utilities that make this kitchen both beautiful and highly functional.
