AGING IN PLACE FROM THE GROUND UP

Longevity and hospitality drove this project from the start. The homeowners wanted a home that would work for them as they age, with a four-season sunroom to enjoy year-round and a full lower-level suite where family and friends could stay comfortably. Working in close collaboration with HomeSource Design Center, we designed and built this 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom craftsman to meet both Energy Star certification standards and aging-in-place requirements. The 2025 WNC Parade of Homes recognized this custom home with a Gold Award for Craftsmanship.

A FLOOR PLAN DESIGNED FOR FLEXIBILITY

At 3,494 square feet across two levels, this home needed to function well both day-to-day and for larger gatherings. The main level centers on an open living and kitchen area with a four-season sunroom that pulls in natural light year-round. A screened porch extends the usable outdoor space, giving the home a transition zone between inside and out.

The lower level is where the floor plan really earns its keep. We built out a full suite with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living area, and a private entrance, giving visiting family and friends a completely self-contained space. Building a functional lower-level suite requires careful coordination of plumbing, mechanical, and egress planning from early in the construction process. We got ahead of those details so the finished space feels intentional.

CRAFTSMAN CHARACTER, BUILT FROM SCRATCH

The craftsman style of this home isn't just aesthetic. It informed structural decisions throughout, from the screened-in porch framing to the custom walnut mantel built for the fireplace crafted by BeeTree Hardwoods. Those kinds of details take more time and more coordination, but they're what separates a house from a home that holds its value.

The team at HomeSource Design Center handled the interior selections throughout, including the chef's kitchen with its oversized center island and the heated tile floors that make the mountain climate genuinely comfortable from fall through spring. Our job was to ensure the construction supported those selections precisely.

The HomeSource Difference

This project is a great example of what the HomeSource family of companies can do when construction and design work together from the start. Solar panels from Sugar Hollow and Energy Star certification reflect a commitment to efficiency that's become a hallmark of HomeSource Builders' custom homes in the Asheville area.
