Private Mountain Contemporary
This 3,000-square-foot Energy Star-certified custom home was engineered for high-wind conditions and built to take full advantage of beautiful mountain views.
What Makes This Home Special
Building a custom home inside a private gated community in Western North Carolina comes with its own set of requirements, and this project was no exception. The site demanded special engineered framing and shear wall design to meet high-wind area building codes, which shaped key structural decisions from the ground up. The result is a 3-bedroom, 3.5-bath home with an office, substantial storage, a reserve water system, and a two-car garage, all built to perform and built to last.

A Living Room That Opens to the Mountains
The heart of this home is a cathedral ceiling great room with a dramatic floor-to-ceiling steel and concrete accent fireplace wall. The real showstopper, though, is the 5-panel bifold door system that folds completely open to connect the living room with a large deck and those long-range mountain views beyond. When that wall of glass and wood folds back, the distinction between inside and outside nearly disappears.
Outdoor Living at Every Turn
This home has outdoor living space at multiple points, all oriented toward the views. The main deck off the living room is built for gathering. A separate deck accessible from the dining area gives that space its own outdoor connection. And the master suite has its own private deck, a quiet spot to take in the mountains without leaving the bedroom.
The deck framing and railing systems, including cable rail for unobstructed sightlines, were coordinated carefully across each outdoor space to create a cohesive look while managing the terrain of the site.
A Primary Suite Designed Around the View
The primary suite opens directly to its private deck through large windows that frame the mountain views from bed level. Inside, the suite includes a spa-style bath with a freestanding soaking tub, a large walk-in shower, and a crystal chandelier overhead. Each of these spaces was designed to take advantage of natural light while maintaining privacy in the private community setting.
Energy Star Homes in Asheville
This home earned Energy Star certification, which means it met strict performance standards for insulation, air sealing, HVAC efficiency, and overall energy use. The engineered framing required for the high-wind site actually worked in concert with those performance goals, creating a tight, well-built envelope that keeps the home comfortable year-round. The reserve water system adds another layer of resilience and self-sufficiency for mountain living.
