Asheville Mountain Modern Craftsman

HomeSource Builders constructed this 3,600-square-foot Energy Star-certified custom home on a challenging site at over 3,500 feet in elevation, where steep-slope overlay requirements demanded specialized engineering and framing techniques.

Steep Slope Construction

The three-bedroom, 3.5-bath home required special engineering features to meet wind shear building codes. Our team designed framing systems that handle the unique demands of high-elevation mountain construction while creating the open spaces the homeowners wanted.

Cathedral Ceilings and Stone Features

The living room features a cathedral ceiling with a stone fireplace and a five-panel bi-fold door opening to a large deck with views of Mount Mitchell in the distance. We also built a cantilevered sitting deck off the master bedroom for private mountain views.

A screened porch off the dining room includes a second stone outdoor fireplace, offering protected outdoor living with fantastic views.

Energy Star Performance

Building an Energy Star-certified home at this elevation presents unique challenges. The higher you build in the mountains, the more demanding the weather conditions become. We used advanced framing techniques, high-performance insulation, and energy-efficient windows and HVAC systems to ensure the home stays comfortable and efficient throughout Western North Carolina's varied seasons.

Integrated Design and Construction

While our team at HomeSource Builders handled the complex construction challenges, HomeSource Design Center worked with the clients to select rich hickory cabinetry, Fantasy Brown dolomite countertops, custom pantry storage solutions, and WarmlyYours radiant floor heating throughout the home, creating a fully integrated and seamless construction experience.

The home also includes an office, gym, and two-car garage, each built to the same exacting standards as the rest of the home.
